The Mountain View

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven on Earth.

Pastor's Ponderings…

Twinkies and Root Beer

A little girl wanted to meet God. She knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so she packed her back pack with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer and she started her journey. When she had gone about three blocks, she met an old woman. She was sitting on a park bench just staring at some pigeons. The little girl sat down next to her and opened her back pack. She was about to take a drink from her root beer when she noticed that the old woman looked hungry, so she offered her a Twinkie. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at her. Her smile was so pleasant that the girl wanted to see it again, so she offered her a root beer. Again, she smiled at her. The girl was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but never said a word.

As it grew dark, the little girl realized how tired she was and that her mother must be wondering where she was, so she got up to leave. But before she had gone more than a few steps, she turned around, ran back to the old woman, and gave her a hug. The woman gave her the biggest smile ever.

When the little girl opened th door to her home a short time later, her mother was surprised by the look of joy on her face. She asked her, "What did you do today that made you so happy?"

She replied, "I had lunch with God." Before her mother could respond, she added, "You know what? God's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. She was living in an apartment with her daughter. Her daughter was stunned by the look of peace on her face and she asked, "Mom, what did you do today that made you so happy?" She replied, "I ate Twinkies and drank root beer in the park with God." Before her daughter could respond, she added, "You know, God's much younger than I expected."

Then the King will say... "I was hungry and  you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink..." The the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink?" The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."  —Matthew 25

Youth News

Many people may not realize how actively involved some of our Youth member are in various aspects of our church. For instance, did you know that we have youth members on some of the committees at church? Rick England and Shane Reinhard are members of the Administrative Council representing youth. They meet once a month along with the other member of Ad Council. Melissa Lambdin is a member of Trustees and meets once a month with that committee. This is a great opportunity for youth member to get involved with the decision making process and to provide input from their perspective.

Others use their talents to serve. Shane Reinhard can be seen playing drums for Praise Team as well as for the Wednesday service. Sarah Parkin regularly sings for the Praise Team and the Wednesday service. Jessee and Russell Papunu sing in the choir every Sunday at the 8:30 service. All of these also entail practice sessions others days of the week. Shilo Parkin help run the projector for the services when needed.

Youth members can be seen regularly offering communion at the Wednesday service and they actively volunteer to do this. Many act as greeters and ushers at the services, and some help out in the nursery babysitting the little ones. Several have signed up to mow the church lawn this summer with their parents. These are just some of the ways our Youth members are serving the Lord.

What have we been up to? The May activities for Youth included making Mother's Day cards from scratch. THANKS to Sheri Sturdevant for bringing all the supplies and helping us make some beautiful cards. Rumor has it that there were a few Mom's with tears of joy in their eyes when they saw these beautiful creations! Sheri will be back with her creative expertise to help us make Father's Day cards in June.

On May 14th, we planned our activities for the month of June. They are included in the newsletter. On May 24th, the Youth ran a Parent's Night Out babysitting service. For $10 a child, parents were able to enjoy an evening out while the Youth members played games, did some craft activities, fed, and supervised a movie activity with the children. THANKS to all the parents who helped supervise this activity with the Youth, and to all the parents who supported us by dropping their kids off and leaving them in our care!

Nicole led a Bible activity on May 28th for our group to end the month of May. If you are interested in participating in Youth, we meet Wednesday night from 7-8 at the Church. All those from grades 6-12 are welcome to join us. For more information, call Mitch or Patty Lambdin at 566-3697 or Pastor Steve or Tracy Reinhard at 181-5742.

Youth Spotlight

Zachary T. Martin

Zachary Martin lives in West Jordan with his younger sister Randy and his mom and dad. He has been coming to the youth group meetings at Mountain Vista for quite a while now. He makes a big effort to always help out and support other youth members, and that is why he has been chosen to be this month's Youth Spotlight.

Zach is 17 years old and will be attending West Jordan High School for about 2 more weeks until he graduates. Zach really enjoys the arts. His favorite subject in school would be drama, and he hopes that one day he will have enough time to write a play, or maybe even a novel. He also would like to receive a liberal arts degree and plans to achieve that goal at the College of Eastern Utah. ]

Zach has a long list of favorites, but his favorite food (today) is chicken noodle soup and his favorite candy would have to be gummy bears. His favorite movie is Muppet Treasure Island, he love to ear out at Red Lobster.

Congratulations, Zach!
