The Mountain View

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven on Earth.

Pastor's Ponderings…

I watched time pass before my very eyes just the other night. I was going through my boys' school work and "a ton" of other memorabilia in a box, the contents of which, spanned fours years. Four years of their precious lives passed before my eyes in a matter of hours: Class photos with children that looked a little like mine, but much smaller and many fewer teeth. Pink, purple, and orange colored dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes. Crayon rainbows that covered a whole sheet of paper. Worksheet after worksheet of multiplication problems. (We think we have a lot of problems as adults. These kids get 100 problems a day at school!) Page after page of spelling tests (Is it "seperate" or "separate"?) Sketched masterpieces of robots, airplanes, mountains, flowers, trees, clouds, sunrises, football, soccer, and basketball games, pianos, and little people of all different proportions. Ribbons, certificates of achievement, Stanford Achievement Test results, and progress reports. Amazing, magical, original, hand-written stories of the impossible becoming possible and accompanying drawings to prove it.

Oh, to realize how much time has passed and how I continue to be further from my childhood. My children keep me in touch. One photograph I ran across was of my oldest son with a bunch of friends over for his birthday party. The boys were gathered at the kitchen table with the birthday cake. Shane was halfway up out of his seat with a look of anticipation on his face that just seemed to shout, "Something GREAT is about to happen!"

We all have to have hope for the future; a feeling that something good is just around the bend; dreams that say, "The impossible can become possible." Look at the boundless creative abilities of children in your life and be reminded that you have a Boundless Creator in God who is always yearning to create something beautiful in your life.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! --2 Corinthians 5:17.

Grace & Peace,
Pastor Steve

 THANK YOU

South Valley Sanctuary called to thank us for our recent donation of personal hygiene items and clothing.  Donations like ours make it possible to reach out to the community!

AND ANOTHER THANK YOU

LifeStart Village was thrilled to receive the items many of you bought to furnish a two-bedroom suite there.  The apartments had not opened yet; they were awaiting another inspection.  They are located in Midvale and are really nice.  This is a transitional and permanent housing project for single women with children.  Thank you for helping!!!

 FALL CLEAN-UP
Saturday, October 4
8:30 a.m. - ?????

We are bursting at the seams and need to get some cleaning and organizing done.  We will be cleaning out the right-hand side closet in the sanctuary, both sheds, and all the classrooms.  Some things have not been used since we moved in here and we will be getting rid of these items.  We would like to have one person from each committee there to help us decide if things stay or go.  Also since we have purchased 50 new chairs, we need to go through and keep the best of our old ones and get rid of the excess.  These will be given away, so if you want some, come Saturday.  Additionally, we will be cleaning our property, especially the irrigation ditch, and getting electricity to our sign.  As an extra incentive, lunch will be provided!!!!

Youth News

A new year of Youth is here. We started off with a kick-off party on September 3rd and Mitch and Patty's house with hot dogs and some great pot-luck side dishes. We talked about the upcoming year with parents and laid out some rules and expectations with parents and youth members. We met some new youth members, and even had a representative from Trinity UMC. They are interested in participating in Youth activities with us and working together.

September 10th was an eventful evening at Laser Quest. Everyone had lots of fun. On September 17th, Shane gave us a very good Bible Devotional from the book of Genesis on "Good Grief." It gave us all something to think about as we tried to relate experiences to our own life. Pastor Steve gave us some information about going to the South Valley Care Center for a service project. We learned about privacy issues, and how to relate to the people we will be encountering on our visits.

On September 24th, we toured the Care Center so that we would be familiar with the facility when we visit in the future.

Our schedule for October is packed with a lot of activities and is as follows:

October 1 Bible Lesson, reviewing and revising our Covenant for the upcoming year, and planning for November. See Nicole Murphy if you want to bring music as a part of the Bible lesson she will be giving that night.
October 8 Sheri will be helping us decorate gourds and pumpkins to take to the South Valley Care Center.
October 15 We are going to the Corn Maze with Trinity UMC. Bring $6 for admission and a little extra if you want to buy a treat afterwards. Be sure to have your emergency form with your parent or guardian's signature turned in to be able to participate. See a youth leader if you need one for you or a guest. Let us know by the 5th if you are going or bringing a guest.
October 22 We will be visiting the Care Center right after the service to take the gourds and pumpkins to the people living there.
October 29 Fun Night. Dress in  your Halloween costume and bring a wrapped White Elephant Halloween present to exchange. Bring some cookies or other snack to share.

Courtney Curtiss, Nicole Murphy and Melissa Lambdin are starting a Birthday Committee to recognize birthdays in our youth group. See them if you have suggestions or want to help with that. We need to know your birthday, so be sure to fill out the Youth member sheet with your interest information on it. If you need one, see a youth leader.

We will be having a light dinner every Wednesday night from 7-7:30. We are relying on individuals and families to bring these meals, so if you want to help out. see one of the Youth leaders to sign up. Light meals might be something like sloppy joes, chips and punch, for instance - nothing fancy.

All Youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend Youth Group on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 until 8:30. See Manny and Nancy Peralez, Pastor Steve and Tracy Reinhard, or Mitch and Patty Lambdin if you have any questions.

PLEASE FEED THE BEARS

Our Cub Scout Pack #4012 is selling popcorn for a fundraiser.  If you’d like to buy some, there is a sign-up list in the foyer.  The deadline is October 22nd
