Our Church’s History
Mountain Vista United Methodist Church has been a place of worship, service, and community in West Jordan for decades. What began as a small congregation meeting in borrowed spaces has grown into a vibrant church with a heart for sharing God’s love. As you explore our history, you’ll see more than dates and buildings—you’ll discover the story of faithful people who responded to God’s call, adapted to new challenges, and helped shape the church we are today. We are grateful for all who have been part of this journey, and we look forward with hope to the chapters still to come.
A New Church is Born (1988-1997)
1988: First worship service of Jordan United Methodist Church was held in a parking lot at the White House Reception Center.
1993: Congregation officially chartered, and 6.68 acres of land were donated by Sam Skaggs for a future church home.
1997: The congregation adopted the name Mountain Vista United Methodist Church.
Building a Home (1998–2009)
2001: Groundbreaking and dedication of the current Ministry Center; first worship held in the new building.
2008–2009: Fellowship Hall (second building) was built and dedicated.
Growing in Ministry (2010–2019)
2012–2013: Pavilion constructed and dedicated.
2016: Solar panels installed, making Mountain Vista one of the region’s churches investing in renewable energy.
2018: Playground completed and dedicated, expanding ministry with children and families.
Faith Through Change (2020–Present)
2020: During the COVID-19 pandemic, worship moved online while ministries such as the sandwich ministry continued serving the community.
2021: Sale of a portion of church property to McDougal Funeral Home was completed, strengthening the church’s financial future.
2023: Mortgage on the church property was completely paid off.
2026: Celebrating 25 years in the current building.
2027: Celebrating 30 years as Mountain Vista United Methodist Church!
