Serving our neighbors is one of the ways we put our faith into action. At Mountain Vista United Methodist Church, we partner with local, national, and international organizations to care for those in need, share God’s love in practical ways, and make a difference in our community and beyond. Whether through donations, hands-on service, or special events throughout the year, there are many opportunities to serve alongside us.

Project Linus Quilt Ministry: Our quilting group gathers each Wednesday from 1:00–3:00 p.m. to create handmade quilts and blankets for children in need. Whether you are an experienced quilter, enjoy sewing, or simply want to lend a helping hand, everyone is welcome to join this caring community.
The blankets are donated to Project Linus, whose mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, have experienced trauma, or are otherwise in need through the gift of new handmade blankets created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
Each stitch is an act of compassion, reminding a child that they are loved and not alone. Through this ministry, we combine fellowship, creativity, and service to share God’s love in a tangible way.

Crossroads Urban Center Food Pantry: Mountain Vista United Methodist Church supports the Crossroads Urban Center Food Pantry by collecting non-perishable food items throughout the year. These donations help provide essential resources for individuals and families in our community who are facing food insecurity.
Through this ongoing collection, our congregation has the opportunity to share God’s love by meeting a basic human need and reminding our neighbors that they are cared for. Every donation, big or small, helps make a difference in the lives of those experiencing difficult seasons.

The Inn Between: Mountain Vista United Methodist Church supports the work of The Inn Between, a hospice home that provides compassionate care and dignity to individuals experiencing homelessness at the end of life. Through this partnership, we join in the important work of offering comfort, respect, and loving care to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Red Cross Blood Drive: Mountain Vista United Methodist Church partners with the American Red Cross to host blood drives each spring and fall. These events provide an opportunity for our congregation and community members to give the gift of life through blood donation.

Operation Christmas Child: Each year, Mountain Vista United Methodist Church participates in Operation Christmas Child, a ministry that shares God’s love with children around the world through the simple gift of a shoebox filled with thoughtful items. Throughout the year, our congregation collects supplies and prepares boxes filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and other gifts that bring joy and encouragement to children in need. During National Collection Week, Mountain Vista also serves as a local drop-off center.
Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all ages to participate in a tangible act of kindness and generosity. Through these shoebox gifts, we join with others around the world in reminding children that they are loved and valued.

Family Promise of Salt Lake: Mountain Vista United Methodist Church partners with Family Promise of Salt Lake to support families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Through this partnership, members of our congregation serve in a variety of ways, including participating in leadership and supporting the ministry through volunteer opportunities.
One of the ways we help is by providing meals for families staying with other host churches in the Family Promise network. During Thanksgiving week this year, our congregation will have the opportunity to prepare and share meals as a way of offering hospitality, encouragement, and care to families in need.
Through this ministry, we seek to live out Christ’s call to welcome the stranger, care for our neighbors, and share God’s love through acts of compassion and service.

St. Vincent de Paul Sandwich Ministry: On the third Monday of each month, members of Mountain Vista United Methodist Church prepare sandwiches for the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, helping provide a meal for neighbors experiencing hunger and homelessness. Congregation members typically make sandwiches at home and bring them to the church, where they are collected and delivered to St. Vincent de Paul.
At times, our congregation also gathers for a more organized sandwich-making event, creating opportunities for fellowship while serving others. Through this simple act of generosity, we share Christ’s love by offering nourishment, care, and compassion to those in need.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
As part of the United Methodist Church, Mountain Vista United Methodist Church supports the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR serves communities around the world by providing humanitarian aid, disaster response, and long-term recovery efforts following natural and human-caused disasters.
Through the generosity of United Methodists everywhere, UMCOR is able to respond quickly when people are in crisis while also supporting programs that address hunger, poverty, health, and other needs. When we support UMCOR, we join with churches around the world in sharing God’s love through compassionate action and practical service.
