Sunday’s Recap:
Last Sunday, we began a new sermon series called Praise Break. Guided by the Psalms, this three-week series is an invitation to pause in the middle of summer activities (and summer heat) to encounter God’s presence and offer praise in every season of life.
This first week, we reflected on Psalm 17, where David, surrounded by fear, longs to behold the face of God. Together, we explored the idea that God is always present. The invitation is not to search for God somewhere else, but to become more aware of the God who is already with us.
As we move through our ordinary days, we are invited to behold God’s face in creation, in our neighbors, and in the everyday moments we so easily overlook. May we grow in our awareness of God’s presence not only on Sunday mornings or in extraordinary moments, but in the ordinary moments that make up our lives.
Monday’s Call:
Worship doesn’t end when the service is over. This week, our invitation is to carry praise into the ordinary moments of daily life by intentionally noticing God’s presence all around us.
As you move through your week, consider trying one or more of these spiritual practices:
Begin the day with a simple prayer.
Before your feet even hit the floor each morning, pray:
“God, help me notice You today.”
Then spend the day looking.
Practice paying attention.
Poet Mary Oliver offers three simple instructions for living a meaningful life:
“Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.”
Find something this week that you would normally overlook. Pay attention to it. Be astonished by God’s presence in and through it. Then tell someone what you noticed.
End the day with reflection.
Spend a few moments journaling or praying through these questions:
• Where did I notice God today?
• Where might I have overlooked God’s presence?
• How will I offer praise to God tomorrow?
May this week be filled with ordinary moments that reveal an extraordinary God.
