Sunday’s Recap: Sing Praises 🎶

Music is powerfully tied to our emotions and memory.

In week two of our series Praise Break, we explored the spiritual discipline of remembering through singing. Psalm 105 is a hymn of praise that was sung during an extremely challenging time for our spiritual ancestors. Yet they chose to praise God through it all by remembering the stories of God’s presence and faithfulness that had sustained them through every season.

When modern Christians think about singing praises, we often think about the Sunday morning worship experience. This is absolutely a sacred time. But Scripture invites us to sing praises at all times.

So we are invited to ponder: What songs need to be sung throughout the week? What songs need to be heard?

Monday’s Call:

The songs we sing in worship contain our foundational beliefs. Often, our songs of praise remind us that worship does not end at the benediction. We are called to continue singing those songs throughout the week not just with our voices, but through the way we live.

As you move through your week, consider trying one or more of these spiritual practices:

🎧 Begin the day by listening to a song of faith.

As you get ready for your day or perhaps during your morning commute, listen to a song that speaks to you on a spiritual level and helps ground you in God. It might be a worship song, a contemporary song, or even a secular song that helps you connect with something sacred.

🎤 Sing to yourself.

As you go through your day, find a moment to ground yourself through singing. Gently place your hand on your throat and feel the vibrations of your vocal cords. Notice the life that comes through your voice. Let your body participate in the prayer, even when your emotions haven’t caught up yet.

✍️ End the day with reflection.

Spend a few moments journaling or praying through these questions:

• What did I hear or experience today that reminded me of God’s faithfulness?

• Where did I have an opportunity to use my voice to uplift someone else? Where might I have spoken too loudly and needed to make space for another person’s voice?

• What do I want to remember about God as I enter tomorrow?
